Popular Figure Sharpener of Sargadelos.

We present this beautiful porcelain figure, known as “The sharpener”. It belongs to the collection of popular figures from the Galician porcelain factory Sargadelos. The tradition of itinerant sharpeners in Galicia, especially in Orense, can be observed since the 17th century, and Sargadelos has included it in this piece. The sharpener or grinder is an itinerant merchant who offers his services to sharpen knives, scissors and other cutting instruments. Handmade figure made of white porcelain and painted in cobalt blue and brown. The figure is in perfect condition as can be seen in the photograph.

The legendary Sargadelos pottery, with more than 200 years of history and originally from the town of Cervo (Galicia-Spain), is known for its hard porcelain tableware, figures and jewellery decorated and finished by hand. With a wide range of shapes, motifs, reliefs and colours. One of the main hallmarks of Sargadelos porcelain is the originality of its designs, inspired by traditional motifs and forms of Galician and Celtic culture. It currently has two production plants, 15 exclusive distribution points, 70 decoration shops and multi-brand jewellery shops in Spain, Asia and America.
