A guy called William Painter solved the problem by inventing, in 1891, the crown cap, with a cork disc inside that prevented the beverage from coming into contact with the metal (today plastic is used). The stopper, with its corrugated rim, was the perfect solution for sealing bottles with carbonated liquid without leakage. After inventing the crown cap, in 1894 William Painter invented its faithful companion: the bottle opener. In addition to these revolutionary inventions, the guy even invented a foot-operated machine to put his caps on bottles, so that manufacturers were finally convinced that the invention was worth investing in. His company, Crown Cork & Seal, opened factories in several countries, including Brazil. He died in 1906, very rich.
