Prayer wheels, also known as prayer wheels, are a ritual prayer object traditionally used by practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism. They consist of brass cylinders that rotate on an axle, inside which is a paper with prayers or mantras, the best known and most used being the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum. These grinders are beautifully decorated on the outside with mantras or the eight auspicious symbols of Buddhism, which amplifies the symbolism of these pieces. Within Buddhist practice it is used to accumulate wisdom and purify bad karma, accumulate positive energy and purify obstacles. The act of spinning the grinder is equivalent to reciting a mantra and this in turn releases the benefits of the mantra written on it.
