Antonio Gelabert, Catàleg raonat.
Because of his financial situation, Antonio Gelabert was never able to devote himself entirely to painting, although this did not prevent him from becoming one of the most important Mallorcan painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His work, of a modernist nature, opposed to academicism, underwent a stylistic evolution as a result of his travels to Barcelona, where he came into contact with modernism, and Paris, where he assimilated symbolism, the synthesist movement and neo-impressionism. Also important are the influences of artists who lived on the island: Santiago Rusiñol, Joaquim Mir, William Degouve de Nuncques and H. Anglada-Camarasa. The subject matter covers the Mallorcan landscapes of Sóller, Deià, Pollença, seascapes, portraits and the urban landscapes of the city of Palma. This book contextualises and relates the painter’s life and work. Profusely illustrated with impressive photographs and drawings. Brand new. Sealed.
