Collection “Unforgettable tales” die-cut by Ferrándiz

Juan Ferrándiz, Spanish illustrator, poet and author of children’s stories, was born in Barcelona in 1917 and died in 1997. His famous die-cut stories make Ferrándiz an extremely popular character among children. In the drawings of his stories, the main characters are characterised with childlike features even though they are adult roles, thus making the children the protagonists of the story. From 1952 he was internationally recognised as the author of a type of Christmas greeting cards with stylised, laughing, bonhomie shepherds or angels, which have been widely imitated. He came to be regarded as “The King of Christmas”. On 31 October 2007, Correos published a stamp with a Christmas illustration by Juan Ferrándiz. In 1992, Ferrándiz was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi by the Generalitat de Catalunya for his artistic and human trajectory.

We present this lot of 33 units of the collection of die-cut stories by the well-known and much-missed Spanish illustrator Juan Ferrándiz. Text and drawings as always, to delight the youngest and revive the memories of the not so young. What makes this collection even more interesting and different is that each book is accompanied by an object that forms part of the story, so that the little ones can experience it more intensely. For example, ‘La ratita presumida’, which is the first number, is accompanied by a broom, ‘Maripili y su Biscuter’ by sunglasses, ‘El urbano Ramón’ by a whistle, ‘Caperucita Roja’ by a jar of honey, ‘Aladino y la lámpara maravillosa’ by a lamp, ‘Alí Babá y los 40 ladrones’ by a bag of coins…. The drawings are naïve and very tender, in the typical style of this Spanish illustrator and writer, Ferrándiz, who was also noted for his work as a creator of Christmas cards. The stories are both adaptations of classics and original creations by the author. There are 26 units of the 2009 edition and 9 units of the 2008 edition. Collection in very good condition. We name the 5 stories that are missing the accessory: Ana the boatwoman (missing oar, broken part of the attachment). Mixi Hula Hoop Queen (Missing the hoop). Minus and the little mice (The peace flag is missing). El país de la ilusión (It lacks the windmill). The Magic Flute (The transparent flute is missing).
