Beswick Pottery was founded in 1892 in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent by James Wright Beswick and his sons John and Gilbert. The company began by manufacturing domestic china and other popular items, including Staffordshire dogs and cats. In 1969, the Beswick business was sold to Royal Doulton and production continued until 2002, when manufacturing ceased and the Gold Street works were demolished in 2003. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
This beautiful family set consists of three figures. One of the figures shows an elegant ceramic penguin (10.5 cm) with a glossy finish and bright colours. It holds a bright red umbrella in its left flipper, open as if protecting itself from imaginary rain. Its expression is charming, typical of Beswick pieces. The detail of the umbrella contrasts cheerfully with its body, which is glazed in classic tones: white on the chest and black on the back. Next to it are two figures of the same size (4.5 cm). One of them has a small chip on its beak and claw.<\/p>\n
